Memorial Human Rights Centre

Memorial Human Rights Centre was one of the oldest Russian human rights organizations, founded in Moscow in 1993. Memorial received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022 for its human rights work, along with two other human rights organizations. Russian authorities forcibly liquidated the group in 2022.

Memorial was working on various projects in the field of human rights, in particular, litigation at the European Court of Human Rights; monitoring violations in the North Caucasus and Central Asia, and breaches of criminal procedure; and providing protection for the victims of political persecution, legal assistance for migrants, and protection for minorities.

Together with OVD-Info, they launched a campaign to file thousands of complaints against the Russian Federation for violating the right to peaceful assembly.

Memorial. Human Rights Defense Center continues the work in its place.
